This presentation was given at the 7th Interagency Meeting, held in Edinburgh, Scotland, 15-16 May, 2006. “New Agriculture” is explained, with the features that allow it to reach the poorest farmers and assist poverty reduction strategies. The changing roles of R&D and Innovation Systems are discussed; capacities can be built into R&D organisations for innovation. A case study for the Ghibe Valley in Ethiopia is examined.
