The VACS convening, organized by CIMMYT with the USDS special envoy for food security and John’s Hopkins University, sought to envision impact pathways for improving soil health and human nutrition and articulate what support is needed for achieving these gains in Africa. This convening gathered practitioners and scientists from very diverse disciplines, geographical and cultural backgrounds, and types of research experiences. The CIMMYT – VACS Training Initiative is orienting its capacity building efforts towards approaches that can realize the ideas and learnings highlighted in the convening.

Two webinars by the CIMMYT – VACS Training Initiative present learnings and elements of a framework for actor- and diversity-oriented transdisciplinary plant breeding and seed system development programs. Concrete experiences and plans for implementation and monitoring these programs will be presented by VACS fellows engaged with specific VACS Opportunity Crops.
