ACET’s forthcoming policy paper, Powering Africa’s Green Transition, provides a data-driven case for scaling up renewable energy to address energy poverty, foster inclusive growth, and reduce macroeconomic risks. It also highlights the practical barriers governments face in translating ambition into action: from vested interests resisting subsidy reform to weak institutional capacity and unpredictable regulatory environments.
This expert roundtable seeks to strengthen the paper by gathering political economy insights that can sharpen its framing, improve its policy uptake, and guide more grounded implementation pathways. Objectives of the dialogue 1. Gather critical feedback on the draft policy paper, particularly its framing, policy realism, and reform recommendations. 2. Surface political economy insights including stakeholder incentives, institutional constraints, and reform sequencing. 3. Identify practical entry points for governments to unlock investment and navigate transition trade-offs. 4. Reflect on longer-term opportunities for building an African community of practice focused on energy governance and just transition dynamics.
