Access to quality seeds of improved varieties remains limited for smallholder farmers in Africa and Asia, despite the efforts and investment made in breeding improved seed varieties by the public sector. Several identified bottlenecks to commercial seed delivery of these improved seed varieties prevent farmers from adopting these improved varieties, with many of them continuing to plant low-quality seed varieties used by previous generations.

In this webinar, Mr. Tony Gathungu, Head of Seeds2B Africa shall introduce and demonstrate the Seeds2B Improved Variety Commercialization toolkit developed by the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture in helping strengthen the seed supply chain. The toolkit provides a set of tools covering the necessary steps and best practices in the product life cycle process from pre-breeding analysis, seed production, marketing and commercial activities, including the legal aspects needed to successfully deliver seeds of improved varieties to smallholder farmers.
