FAO is conducting a series of knowledge-rich webinars on a monthly basis as part of the Progressive Management Pathway for Terrestrial Animal Biosecurity (PMP-TAB) Community of Practice. These webinars cover a host of topics related to the progressive improvement of terrestrial animal biosecurity, involving speakers and participants from multiple disciplines and backgrounds.

Biosecurity measures are essential for mitigating the risk of pathogen introduction and spread in farms. In this presentation, Prof. Nielsen, Professor in veterinary epidemiology, University of Copenhagen, will present a novel approach to assess biosecurity and address gaps in a specific environment for small- and medium-sized poultry farms. Local or regional considerations on key diseases, key management practices or other features may impact the priority of different areas that should be assessed, and this can affect the scoring when farm biosecurity is assessed. Participants will be invited to participate in a small exercise to illustrate the principles, which they might bring to their own local or regional environment.
