Policy Issues in Livestock Development and Poverty Reduction

Abstract

This policy briefing is based on Working Paper No. 10.

Development in the livestock sector and increased production worldwide, is seen as important for meeting both the increasing demand for animal products and the aim to halve the number of people in the world living in extreme poverty, by 2015. Policy strategies for such developments are summarised in three categories: price policies, institutional policies, and technological change policies. The issues associated with each policy category are outlined.
