Lessons from Piloting Weather Index Insurance

Abstract

This presentation is an overview of risk management in agriculture generally and is primarily comprised of information related to agricultural insurance, its coverage and the market for agricultural insurance. The case study of Malawi as well as some experience from SE Asia, flood risk and flood risk modeling. The conclusion of the presentation is on Flood Feasibility Study Findings and the limitations of Weather Index Insurance in general, lessons learned, some notes about index insurance and climate change.
