There are many exciting research achievements to report on for 2009, including our “assault” on salt in our breeding program; making the most of Bangladesh’s rice-maize system; increasing the food supply and stabilizing prices in South Asia’s grain basket through the new CSISA, which I mentioned earlier; our eco-smart stand against that persistent insect pest of rice, the rice planthopper; and bringing agriculture in East and Southern Africa up to speed with the rest of the world.
