Funding Mechanisms for Animal Healthcare Systems

Abstract

This policy briefing is based on Working Paper No. 17.

Animal production is predicted to increase significantly in the the future, in developing countries. The level of animal health care service provided in these countries is not enough for current, let alone future, demand. Funding appears to be the main barrier to improvement in this sector. The status of such funding in Europe is discussed, and recommendations are made for giving a pro-poor focus to funding mechanisms.
