The Cotton Institute of Mozambique (IAM in its Portuguese acronym) was created in 1991 to promote cotton development through policies, strategies and legislation, research extension and marketing promotion.
IAM is a public institution under the supervision of Mozambique’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Its mandate encompasses:
- Supervising the activities of promotion, production, commercialization, industrialization of cotton, sisal and other cultures for textile purposes;
- Implementing, in coordination with specialized institutions, research and transfer of technologies for the production, trade and processing of cotton, sisal and other crops for textile purposes;
- Promoting compliance with technical and environmental standards in the production of cotton, sisal and other crops for textile purposes, thus contributing to the sustainability of production systems.
