Our current food system is broken. In economic terms, it means that the hidden costs of the negative social, environmental and health consequences cost the world more than 10 trillion USD each year. This is a tax on both current and future generations, and hinders the transitions we need in order to achieve a health-enhancing, inclusive and environmentally sustainable future. The Food System Economics Commission is an independent academic commission that was charged with drawing on the best scientific analysis from economics and across the social sciences to present lessons and options for policymakers to help find solutions for a food system transformation.
At this launch event, Commissioners, Co-Chairs and expert researchers will share and discuss research findings, policy suggestions and pathways forward – all informed by the FSEC work. Through keynote speeches, presentations, panel discussions and audience interaction, the event will highlight the opportunities for global policymakers and stakeholders to help shift and transform our food systems.
