The global COVID-19 crisis threatens food systems worldwide. Possible disruptions will tend to affect the most vulnerable people mostly, limiting their access to food. Given their widespread pre-existing challenges in development, African countries may particularly suffer these effects.
While the supply of staple commodities is currently functioning well, the multifaceted COVID-19 crisis poses several risks to food access. In light of the pandemic, countries must keep food supply chains going in order to avoid food shortages.
